ANMF CPD Newsletter April 2015
Registration is definitely on everyone’s mind at the moment including registration requirements for continuing professional development (CPD). We all tend to focus on the CPD hours but there is more to meeting your CPD requirements.
The elements include:
- Identifying your learning needs and making a plan
- Reflecting on how the CPD will improve your practice
- Evidence of your CPD activities, hours, outcomes and reflections
- Ensuring that the CPD is directly related to your area of practice.
The ANMF provides a diverse range of endorsed online CPD activities and the resources to meet your CPD requirements.
Contact Jodie Davis ANMF Federal Education Officer for further information.
The Online Clinical Simulations for Nurses and Midwives Training Room offers 3D simulated learning for clinical procedures such as how to administer an injection, insert a nasogastric tube or perform and interpret an ECG. The training room currently consists of 32 modules covering specific procedures or topics in detail (see full list below). Each module provides you with an interactive simulation accompanied by descriptive text explaining how to perform the procedure, a video demonstration by an expert, 2D images and 3D models of the anatomy encountered and a quiz. Scores and time taken to complete each module is stored in your logbook on the website. These highly visual and interactive simulations allow you to learn or review clinical procedures without the distraction of events in our workplace or the high cost associated with attending face to face training.
Access to each module is for a term of one month. During this time you will have access to each module purchased 24/7. On expiration of each module a message will appear in your ‘bookshelf’ area on the website notifying you of the expiration. You may repurchase any module at any time.
All training modules in the suite have been endorsed by the ANMF. On completion of each module a Simulation Summary Report advising you of your simulation test score and quiz score, along with the time it took you to complete each module, will be available in your Logbook, which can be accessed from the top left drop down menu. This report is printable and can be retained as evidence of completion of the training modules.
ANMF members, you will need to enter the details of the simulation education modules you have completed in your CPE record under “Other Continuing Professional Education activities undertaken”. Please record the time you spent on each module in hours and minutes taking into account that each hour of active learning contributes to your 20 hours of CPD required by the NMBA. An example can be viewed here.
